Replacement Air Mattress Systems and Models

Replacement Air Mattress Systems and Bed Options

We carry a wide number of air mattress systems and hospital beds for customers
looking for options for patient care to treat and prevent bed sores, skin ulcers,
pressure wounds and wound care.  Before we get to the actual air mattresses and hospital
beds lets go over some general terms so it makes it easier to understand.

What is a “Med-Surge” Bed and a “Replacement Mattress” ?
A “med-surge” bed is a bed that normally comes with a foam mattress on top but can have it taken off and have an air mattress put on it. A “replacement mattress” is an air mattress that normally goes on a “med-surge” bed. Hospitals also buy ICU beds and ICU beds have an air pump under the bed and a specific connection for a specific mattress for that bed.

Although there are a few Hill Rom and Stryker beds that do offer a built in air mattress
they normally require more service and are very heavy beds. This is why we are promoting other full electric bed models with a NEW replacement air mattress.

Air Mattress Features

A new air mattress system can provide a host of options including:

(1) Alternating pressure – this is when some of the “air bladders” or “baffles” in the air
mattress deflate and others inflate to change the pressure points on the body that
have contact with the mattress.

(2) Low air loss – this is when the mattress produces a layer of cool air over the top
of the mattress. Cool air over the top of the mattress helps keep the patient dry
and is very helpful for clearing up bed sores.

(3) Lateral rotation – lateral turning of the patient helps keep them moving and changing the surface of the body having contact with the mattress surface. This also helps with some pulmonary – lung functions. Lateral turning mattresses are normally in the higher price ranges since this feature requires much more functionality.

Air Mattresses Models and Options

(1) Basic air mattress with low air loss and alternating pressure $395
This is the “Pro 3000” air mattress with basic low air loss and alternating pressure.
This is an entry level air mattress for people spending a lot of time in bed. This
is also for people that are able to turn and reposition themselves in bed.

(2)  Commerical grade low air loss mattress and alternating pressure system $2,295
This is the Prius MultiRythm mattress system. This mattress system has a larger bed
air pump than standard residential air mattress systems and is designed to treat and
help heal bed sores and pressure wounds. Why is this system so much more expensive?
Namely because the size of the air pump and the size of the holes producing low air loss.
There are many types of low air loss mattresses however the larger the holes in the mattress for air to come in the better the job being done keeping the patient dry and
dissipating moisture. Some mattresses have “micro air” tiny holes which technically
does have low air loss however the small or micro holes are not as effective and the
mattress does not need a larger pump for small tiny holes. The Prius Multicare air
mattress system is what hospitals use for a wound care mattress surface.

(3) Lateral turning air mattress with low air loss and alternating pressure
Option A: Prius Duet Mattress $3,495 * special demo price with bed purchase
Option B” Pro 7000 Mattress $2,495 –

The main difference between the Prius Duet mattress and the Pro 7000 air
mattress with lateral turning is that the Prius has an separate group of air
bladders under the bed turning the patient where as the Pro 7000 mattress
does it with the actual air bladders the patient is laying on. Also the
Duet mattress can do low air loss and alternating pressure simultaneously.

The Prius Duet air mattress also has a softer air baffle fabric and a ridge around
the bed that the patient turns into instead of turning into the bed frame.

Both mattresses will do an excellent job with patient care with the Prius Duet
being the one we use for hospital wound care beds and rentals.
