The Hill-Rom® P1900 TotalCare® hospital bed is one of the most popular
hospital beds ever made in the USA and is known as a durable

of the “only hospital beds that will sit into a full chair position“, this

This bed comes equipped with either a foam or air mattress system with
the air mattress models being referred to as
(1)”TotalCare Treatment Bed” with green mattress (basic air mattress). This bed
is not very common since most hospitals ordered this bed because of the lateral turning
mattress features and percussion – vibration feature.
(2)” TotalCare Sport 1 and Sport 2 bed” with magenta mattress. The “Sport Bed” version performs “lateral rotation” (patient turning) and also “percussion – vibration” pulmonary features to break up congestion in lungs. Some versions of this bed including the Sport 2 model also include “low air loss”. What is the difference between the Hill Rom P1900 TotalCare Bed Models?
The Hill Rom® P1900 TotalCare® Sport bed with air mattress system is
designed as an “ICU”, acute care bed and is used for patients with
bed sores or at risk of getting bed sores and skin ulcers. These beds
are often used for patients with burns, MS, Lou Gehrig’s disease
(ALS), paraplegic and quadriplegic patients. This bed is used for

Hill Rom® P1900 TotalCare® “Sport 1” Hospital Bed
The Hill-Rom® P1900 Totalcare® bed comes with several different models
which include both foam mattress and air mattress systems. The basic
P1900 TotalCare® bed with a foam mattress is known as a “med-surg”
bed for general hospital use. The Hill Rom P1900 bed also came out
with a “SpO2RT®” version which included a “TotalCare SpO2RT® 1” and
“TotalCare SpO2RT® 2” ICU Bed model also referred to as a “Sport Bed”.
The Hill Rom P1900 TotalCare Sport bed air mattress performs
(1) Lateral rotation – it turns the person from left, middle and right
(2) Percussion – Vibration – it helps break up congestion in lungs and
is also referred to as a pulmonary bed feature
(3) Some of the “Sport 1” bed versions and all of the “Sport 2” bed versions
also included a “low air loss mattress” feature which runs a layer of air
conditioned air over the top of the mattress pad to help keep the patient cool
and prevent sweating.

Hill Rom Air Mattress Beds P1900 Treatment Bed TotalCare Sport Hospital beds
The Hill-Rom® P1900 air mattress model versions
include the following attributes.
Hill Rom® P1900 “Treatment Bed” version – This hospital bed comes
with an air mattress and have (6) connection points to the mattress.
This mattress is designed to treat intensive care (ICU) and acute care
patients that may be at risk of developing bed sores or skin ulcers.

Hill-Rom® P1900 TotalCare® “Sport 1” version – this model has a more intricate mattress system with (16) conncection ports from the bed to mattress system. This model performs the following functions that the P1900 Treatment bed version does not including (1) “percussion-vibration” feature which will rotate the patient and massage the upper respiratory system to help clear congestion from the ling areas. (2) another feature added to the TotalCare® P1900 “Sport” bed version is “auto patient turning” which will inflate air bladders within the bed turning the patient from 10 degrees to 40 degrees from middle, left and right positions. “Touchscreen” system interface instead of the traditional push button
system and also having dual screen controls on both side rails instead
of just one on the left hand side. These hospital beds are known as
